Outline

Module/course Summary

This asynchronous online learning module (MOOC) is recorded in French but there are English subtitles available.

This MOOC is designed to help you understand the scale of the climate/energy challenges facing our societies and economies, and to help you identify the keys to a successful low-carbon transition.

This course puts into perspective the triptych of sobriety, efficiency and decarbonised energies to understand the energy transition, tackling the following questions:
  • Upstream of the energy system, is it possible to have a 100% renewable mix? What role can nuclear power play? Apart from photovoltaic solar energy and wind power, what other renewable energies are available? Why is there no mention of renewable heat? Will hydrogen save us? How far can we bet on technology to consume as much energy as we do today, but without emissions? And so on.
  • Downstream of the energy system, what role can energy efficiency and sobriety play? Can we afford to change our phone every year? Is the electric car a step forward? Can we build without carbon-based, energy-intensive materials like concrete? Should we all become vegetarians? How would the transition improve people's purchasing power and the country's independence?
It consists of 19 videos/courses (MOOC type) of around 30 minutes each and quizzes enabling students to validate the content independently as they go along.
