Module/course Summary

Since the beginning of information systems (IS) in organisations, an important gap has been observed between the goals of IS projects and what was actually implemented, between the reasons given to justify the acquisition of information technologies and the actual use that has been made of them, between the planned schedule and the actual implementation. Moreover, many projects are simply not implemented (while having been designed) with a loss of millions spent in design and planning. The main reason of this is that IS implementation is an art that pose many problems, most of which are not technical problems, but these problems drive the success or the failure of such a project. Examples are to take account of end-users situation, or power games around a given project. These problems are fundamental ones for practitioners; unfortunately scholars often ignore them.
