Module/course Summary

This specialization helps students to acquire key skills needed to
integrate sustainability considerations into business activities.
Starting from the Basics of Environmental and Sustainability Management (how to turn companies into organisations that continuously and systematically learn to be more sustainable?) as well as Marketing for Sustainability Transition
(how to motivate customers and consumers to contribute to society’s
move towards sustainable development?), students will also deal with the
challenges of Creating Responsible Supply Chains (how to manage complex and often in-transparent global supply chains more responsibly?).

As
sustainability management is about giving new directions to business
based on considering for example ecological and social concerns, it is
also about creating future industries and markets that operate on
alternative principles. Therefore, Managing the Future offers an overview of current trends and developments at the intersections of digitalization and sustainability (pushing,
for
example, circular and sharing economy businesses, green start-ups,
social businesses etc.), which will inspire students to rethink the
purpose and principles of successful business. This course will be
taught by an experienced professional who is founded various digital
start-ups and is an expert in alternative approaches to
self-development, leading, and managing (e.g., Ikigai).

Besides
being a highly attractive city for your choice of campus, the Berlin
campus is well suited for offering this specialization as sustainability
is one of its academic key areas. Germany is a country with a
successful track record in managing sustainability in both business and
politics, and Berlin is a vibrant environment for green and social
start-ups as well as sustainability initiatives of leading German
companies. This setting allows students to explore the practical side of
up-to-date sustainability management.
