This is an introductory module on financial engineering, with a focus on the innovation provided by investment banks in creating new instruments. It describes basic financial derivatives such as forwards and futures contracts, options, swaps, and credit derivatives. It also looks into the vast area of structured finance like securitization, in its many complexities, merchant banking, project financing, real estate financing, distressed situations and restructuring.
