Module/course Summary

Banks and other financial intermediaries are the most important suppliers of finance and therefore a vital sector of the economy. The principle part of this course is devoted to an in depth exposure of financial intermediaries, such as different types of funds, insurance companies, investment banks, finance companies and commercial banks. We discuss the role of these intermediaries in the economy, the regulatory and economic environment and current issues.

In the second part we will also focus on specific risk management and market value maximization techniques that have been developed principally in banks but are also used  by other Financial Intermediates. In particular we will address the more traditional Asset Liability Management methods as well as modern Value at Risk approaches.
