Module/course Summary

The world sometimes appears to change
dramatically and at random, as unforeseeable events seem to emerge more frequently than ever before.

Many of these changes are the
results of large-scale historical trends or megatrends (eg., Western
populations are growing older; climate change is compromising global value
chains and undermining agricultural practices; digital technologies accelerate
at an exponential pace and transform the way we live and work). As megatrends
continue, they shape an entirely different world from the one we live in today.

Beside megatrends, the future is
shaped by some truly unexpected events (eg., in December 1991 one of the
world’s super powers, the Soviet Union, collapsed; in April 2010 the Eyjafjallajökull vulcano eruption halted flights
across Europe for a week; in April 2020 the price of oil became negative for
the first time in history…).

In short, we cannot know the future
- because it does not exist yet - and we cannot predict it because we live in
times of ultra rapid change, characterised by volatility, uncertainty,
complexity and ambiguity (VUCA). Yet, some degree of planning is necessary to
guide any strategic decision.

This specialization is designed
with some urgent needs of managers and decision makers in mind: understand the fast changing
competitive landscape, accordingly design a future-proof strategy, and
effectively lead future ready organizations.

Thanks to a combination of
strategic foresight and digital strategy and transformation, this
specialization equips students with a rich toolkit to navigate and thrive in
emerging digital futures.
