Module/course Summary

This module refers to a contingency approach of HRM and analyses internal and external factors that influence HRM practices of organisations. It looks at universalistic streams that prescribe a “one best way” in the field of HRM from a critical perspective and proposes a context-oriented paradigm. 
This module is not designed for HRM specialists but for future managers who will be involved in HR decisions, possibly outside of their native country.


Content to be covered within the module:
  • Main issues of HRM: recruitment / compensation / appraisal / training / development and careers / talent management.
  • Different contexts: institutional context (national or supranational), cultural context or strategic and organisational context.
  • Different frameworks: industrial relations systems / national or regional models / organisational typologies.
